Incidentally, the word cookie comes from the Dutch word koekje meaning little cake, but in England cookies are generally known as biscuits, this word comes from Old French meaning twice-cooked. The first biscuits were probably more like rusks, made by baking pieces of bread twice, which were then taken on long sea voyages.
